This appears to be a reprint of a much older Journal article. While still a very good article, it mentions the possibility of a vapor canopy, which most creationists abandoned years ago. The arguments of this paper still apply, except crediting a vapor canopy is no longer argued by most creationists. There still may have been much less atmospheric C-14 before and immediately after the flood. See several other LSI essays and articles, including the May 2003 LSI Journal article, "The Vapor Canopy Theory - Is It in Trouble?" As always, science changes, but God’s revealed truth in Scripture never changes. MSB, 3/16/2014

Certainly the Bible's creation account must be accepted by faith alone "creation ex nihilo" in six consecutive 24 hour days, Adam and Eve, the fall into sin, etc. However, this is not the same thing as demonstrating that nothing in science really contradicts the creation account. Much of God's creation can also be observed as we study the universe using scientific methods.
This opinion piece is based on a presentation delivered to the WELS Metro Milwaukee Teachers' Conference in March, 2010.

A Case Study: The Creationism of Hugh Ross and Reasons to Believe (hereafter, referred to as RTB).
This paper is meant to give the reader a broad overview of some of the more significant claims of Hugh Ross and RTB. As we proceed, the reader should understand that, due to space limitations of this paper, many details will be omitted. I intend to offer a distinctly confessional Lutheran assessment whenever applicable, as I believe that a distinctly confessional Lutheran approach is sorely lacking in the contemporary creationist movement. It is also my intent to strive, wherever possible, to keep Hugh Ross' purely scientific assertions separate from his theological assertions, or, in the very least, to make this distinction obvious to the reader. I realize that his theological position can and does influence many of his scientific conclusions. However, in order to make appropriate Scriptural application, the creationist must always be aware of that which has its foundation in Scripture and that which does not.

We would expect most fossils to appear in a rough order from deep sea marine organisms to terrestrial life, based on factors like their ability to flee danger and hydrological sorting of their bodies. Of course marine organisms would be present at all levels, but land-dwelling life would not be found in the deep sea deposits. Darwinian fundamentalism does not predict this marine-to-terrestrial order we see in fossils, as the creation model does; it simply incorporates the evidence it finds. We even find marine fossils on the tops of the highest mountains, including Mount Everest, demonstrating that the layers from which the mountains formed were once under water.

Excerpt: "No other celestial object has been written about more in the western world than the object known as the Christmas Star or the Star of Bethlehem. The nature of this object is as controversial today as it was centuries ago. From a scientific point of view there are several astronomical objects or groups of objects that are possible candidates for being THE STAR."

The Nazi German military had developed a code system, called Enigma, for sending information and directions to its field units and ships. ...Alan Turing and the team of codebreakers successfully developed a machine to decode the Germans’ messages. The breaking of Enigma is considered among the top accomplishments leading to Allied victory in the War. Consider now that the field of code-making and code-breaking, formally called cryptography, unveils fundamental evidence of intelligence.

King David and his fellow psalmist lived between 1000 before Christ and the date of the last Psalmist is unknown. According to many today, those people lived in the dark ages and had no idea of creation, God, preservation or even science. This would make many of the Psalms as much as 3,000 years old. We need to remember they were probably 3,000 years closer to the original creation. With that in mind, let’s see what they have to say about God’s Creation.

The Creation of Eve in the Light of Molecular Biology, by Kautz, Darrel This is a reprint of a much older article. Darrel Kautz went home to the Lord in 1993.
Excerpt: "The creation of Adam and Eve were miraculous events, first Adam and then Eve from Adam. The information in this section is not an attempt to show scientifically how God created Eve; that is impossible to do. Rather, its purpose is to show, on the basis of molecular biology, that the biblical account of Eve’s creation falls into the category of reality as we know it, and not into the realm of myth as some persons believe."
Description
Excerpt: "Albert Einstein's General and Special Theories of Relativity predicted time dilation and space curvature, both of which have actually been observed. Such confirmations are strong indications that the basic theory is actually true. Young earth creationists are particularly adept at shocking the materialistic scientific community with expectations which turn out to be verified."

Excerpt: "When I had a chance to study the first chapters of Genesis as an elementary school student, I thought it odd that God seemed so inactive on the first day of Creation. After all, what did He do on this day besides creating light? Compare that to the third day of Creation, for instance, when He was busy bringing forth dry land and creating all the types of vegetation, or the fifth day, when He created all the creatures of the sea and those of the air. However, a careful examination of Scripture along with a bit of logical reasoning (and a dose of speculation now and then) reveals that God was far more active on Day One than merely creating what we call visible light."
Vegetation, Fish, Sun, Moon, Stars: Were they created directly from nothing, or from previously created material?
Let’s examine the words God uses to describe His creative acts starting with His words describing the creation of people. Note that Genesis chapter 1 often gives a more general description, while Genesis chapter 2 reveals additional details to us.

What are Bible-believing Christians to think of dinosaurs? Over the years not all Christians have accepted their existence. Even today we hear a voice or two claiming that the dinosaur fossils are fossils directly created by God and placed in the ground merely to test our faith. However, the discovery of vast numbers of bones, tracks, and other fossils of creatures not known to exist today are not so easy to dismiss, nor is it at all necessary to do so. Not only is there nothing we really know about dinosaurs that conflicts in any way with the Bible and a traditional, Biblical understanding of the history of the world, but the Bible may actually contain direct support for a belief in the existence of dinosaurs.
